Meet a valued member of our Spinnaker team of experts: Founding Principal Chris Landrum. Spinnaker’s Top Gun, Chris brings deep leadership experience to his role, including as a Capital One Financial executive and as an armor officer in the U.S. Army where he was lead planner for a 5,000-person brigade combat team. Today Chris’s main focus is on his role as a company leader, managing operations and executing on Spinnaker’s strategic vision. He also owns two practices for Spinnaker: capability/service delivery and risk/compliance.
Chris met Shawn Sweeney, Spinnaker’s founder and managing partner, at Capital One while they were implementing a multi-system IT infrastructure project — which they believe was the single largest U.S. project of its kind at the time. Both hands-on, intentional leaders willing to roll up their sleeves to achieve better results, their work styles and high levels of self-motivation complemented one another. Several years later Shawn invited Chris to be a part of launching Spinnaker.
No stranger to hard work, Chris learned early on the value of discipline and focus. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, Chris spent five action-packed years in the U.S. Army, including at the U.S. Army Ranger School— one of the most rigorous training experiences a soldier can volunteer for. Graduating from Ranger School ranks as one of Chris’s top professional achievements. Following his service with the Army, he went on to earn an MBA from the University of Richmond.
Chris is respected as an agile, flexible leader and critical thinker who brings fresh insights to complex challenges. He has a passion for process and perspective, excels at bringing together cross-functional teams, and is definitely the expert you want in your corner when you need to implement change. A one-time aspiring fighter pilot — his childhood career dream — Chris exemplifies the core characteristics of a true top gun: A leader who inspires confidence, always brings his “A” game, isn’t afraid of taking risks, and thrives on speed — in this case, the fast-paced momentum of running a start-up.
